Perennial series

Danielle Andrée

Perennial series involves an ongoing, garden-based nourishment ritual. Time-lapse photography records the artist and a Tagetes lucida plant facing the sun, tethered together by a silk wick drawing water from a copper vessel overhead. A temporal disconnection from digital communications is enabled through the plant’s requisition of the artist’s focus and movements.

Attempts at plant-human durational convergence in Perennial series produce a type of vegetal training of human movement. The inverting of plant-human instrumental relations implicit in this aims to hold the artist and viewer in a state of stillness, where meditative-contemplative thinking is allowed to flourish.
